Yohoho folks! I hope that you’re enjoying your holidays to the fullest. Here’s my list of top 10 albums of two-o-one-four
1. Dark Fortress – Venereal Dawn
The Germans are back with a bang. Amazing leads, crunchy riffs and well-timed melodic choruses, are the elements which make this album damn awesome. Plus it has good vibes of the old Opeth in the track ‘Lloigor’.
2. Faun – Luna
3. Behemoth – The Satanist
“I believe in Satan
Who rend both heavens and earth
And in the Antichrist
His dearly misbegotten”
First Nergal and then Inferno, the band was in turmoil between the years 2010-2013. But they fought their way back and gave us ‘The Satanist’ which is simply epic. A new direction in their path, just awesome.
4. Alestorm – Sunset on the Golden Age
This band always brings a smile on my face. Tune into their album and get wasted this winter. (Also, I feel that these guys should provide the background score for the anime One-Piece.)
5. Goatwhore – Constricting Rage of the Merciless
6. Arkona – Yav
The wind instruments, the clean to growl transitions, perfectly layered keyboards, ear-catchy chords and off-beat drumming are the few things which make this album unique. A must listen for pagan metal/folk metal fans.
7. Winterfylleth – The Divination of Antiquity
The English black metal band from Manchester present before us yet another masterpiece. The sheer elegance of tremolo-picking & graceful melodies will take you to a whole new level. Experience the beauty of autumn, this winter by checking out this album.
8. Slipknot – .5: The Gray Chapter
Due to prolific nature of this album, listener’s aggression is advised. Maggots are back with a big bang. Amazing tracks but I still miss Joey & Paul.
9. Owl’s Blood – Cold Night of Meditation
From Spain, this band beautifully combines clean electric with raw distortion and lyrical themes that mainly revolve around nature.
10. Kanashimi / Happy Days – The Great Depression II
This two-way split between Kanashimi from Japan and Happy Days from USA is the real deal for DSBM fans. The grand piano which revolves around fifth note creates the mood for Kanashimi along with melodic yet off-beat leads. From bends of bells to ripping riffs, the deadly duo of Happy Days simply nail it.
I hope you enjoyed reading it. Get wasted & drink as if there is no tomorrow. Stay Safe.
