If you are one of those death metal fans who listens to the old school raw variety on headphones constantly, you would know how the music takes you into a very nasty and filthy world, which is only matched by the ‘oomph’ created by sludge metal. The band in question here is one of those raw, old school death metal bands from Italy, named Drown in Blood who brought out their debut full length album ‘Addicted to Murder’ this April 27th on Earthquake Terror Noise.
Formed in 2009, after their 2012 EP, the band gives it’s first shot at a full length with ‘Addicted To Murder’ and achieves the near impossible of belting out 8 continuous tracks of relentlessly raw, fast paced old school death metal not heard often in recent times. For me, everything on this album brings back memories I had with Facebreaker’s 2013 gem ‘Dedicated to the Flesh’.
I can decipher each song and describe it for you, but its not going to be worth your time or my effort, because this shit is simple and in your face, nasty death metal with some new riffs with anti-religion and gory lyrical themes. It brings to the table just what any death metal fan craves for.
Its difficult to pick a favorite here because each song has enough meat in it and adds to the quality of the album as a whole. The sound oscillates between mid tempo and high tempo not allowing any monotony in the middle. The fact that the band members are and were in many other Italian bands comes as no surprise as the music here is of the highest quality and the musicians show exemplary technical skills, though its worth noting that their other bands are of other metal sub genres which emphasizes their technical versatility.
But coming to this record, the writing is on the wall, clocking just under 30 minutes. Its the kind of music that gives the seasoned death metal fans multiple ear-gasms, and I highly recommend you guys to check out Drown in Blood’s ‘Addicted to Murder’ without any second thoughts.
